Alaska Craftsman Home Program (www.alaska.net/~achp)

Austin, TX - Austin Energy's Green Building Program (www.ci.austin.tx.us/greenbuilder) is the oldest program in the nation working with all building sectors. You'll find factsheets, resource guides, case studies, and other publications.

Boulder, Colorado - Green Points Program (www.ci.boulder.co.us/environmentalaffairs/green_points) required for all residential construction within the city.

Build It Green (www.build-green.org) A professional non-profit organization in California whose mission is to transform the building industry so that buildings are remodeled and built using green practices and products.

BUILT GREEN (www.builtgreen.net) is an environmental building program of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties, that covers new homes, remodeling, multi-family and developments.

Built Green Colorado (www.builtgreen.org/default.htm) The country's first green building program run by a local home builders association, the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver, and has also has rated more homes than any other local program.

Center for Sustainable Systems (CSS) (css.snre.umich.edu/index.html), University of Michigan, develops life cycle based models and sustainability metrics to evaluate the performance and to guide the continuous improvement of industrial systems for meeting societal needs.

Cool Communities (www.coolcommunities.org) works to improve Georgia's air and water quality and to promote healthy and livable communities by advocating urban heat island mitigation using sustainable cost-effective strategies for development, construction and existing structure retro-fitting.

EarthCraft House™ (www.southface.org/web/earthcraft_house/ech_training/ech_builder-training.htm) from the Southface Energy Institute and the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association

Energy Trust of Oregon (www.energytrust.org) is a nonprofit, charitable organization with the mandate to invest public-purposes funding for energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy resources in Oregon.

Florida Green Building Coalition (www.floridagreenbuilding.org) has developed a Green Home Designation Standard for new and existing homes and a Green Development Designation Standard for commercial, mixed-use and residential developments.

Green Building Alliance (Pittsburgh) (www.gbapgh.org) is a regional clearinghouse offering consultation, fact sheets, case studies, etc.

Green Building Information Council (GBIC), Canada (greenbuilding.ca)

GreenHOME's (greenhome.org) is a demonstration program to promote affordable, sustainable design, construction, and landscape practices for homes and communities throughout the Washington, DC area.

Second Nature (www.secondnature.org) assists colleges and universities to integrate sustainability as a core component of education and practice, and to help expand their efforts to make human activity sustainable.

Scottsdale, Arizona, Green Building Program (www.ci.scottsdale.az.us/greenbuilding/) program and rating system for new homes

Southface Energy Institute (www.southface.org) promotes sustainable homes, work places and communities in the Atlanta, Georgia, region through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance

Wisconsin Green Building Alliance's (WGBA) (www.wgba.org) mission is to facilitate and promote the development and use of ecologically sustainable materials and practices within Wisconsin's Built environment. WGBA provides a variety of resources, including: an annual green building conference, educational forums and site visits to green demonstration projects, a quarterly newsletter and an annual assessment survey to keep abreast of the needs of the industry.

National Programs

ReBuild America is a DOE program to provide technical assistance in energy efficiency projects including the public and MF housing sector (www.rebuild.org/index.asp)

Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) (www.sbicouncil.org), formerly the Passive Solar Industries Council, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance the design, affordability, energy performance, and environmental soundness of residential, institutional, and commercial buildings nationwide. Organization activities address all aspects of sustainable design and construction: energy efficiency, renewable technologies, daylighting, healthy indoor environments, traditional materials, and resource conservation. They conduct workshops on green and low-energy design, publish their Green Building Guidelines, Energy-10 energy modeling software, as well as other low-energy design books. (www.sbic.org)

U.S. DOE and U.S. EPA -- Energy Star program (www.energystar.gov) provides a wealth of information related to the ENERGY STAR label and energy efficiency in appliances, heating and cooling, home electronics, lighting, office equipment, new home construction, home improvement, and business improvement.

United States Green Building Council (USGBC) (www.usgbc.org) is a national coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. USGBC has developed the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ as a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.
